Verlander had a good outing except for the walks he gave up in the 3rd
inning which lead to 3 Indians' runs.

But the Tiger offense against Paul Byrd was nearly non-existent. Too
many first pitch swings for infield grounders or pop-ups. In one
inning Byrd threw only 5 pitches and got 3 outs. Twice Ordonez had
Guillen on base and swung at a first pitch for an out. What don't
these guys understand about being patient at the plate? This game was
a microcosm of how badly the Tiger offense has performed so far this
whole season.

Did you hear Leylands pre-game remarks (The Jim Leyland Show)? He said
that the Tigers don't seem to feel sufficient pain when they lose.

I dearly wish I had taped that because I would like to quote him
verbatim. He indicated that that was the best way to "say it."

IOW, they don't give damn. Oh, sure, a win would be nice, but if they
lose? Oh, well...

Why should they care? They get paid either way...and most of them
get OVERpaid either way.

They sure don't look like guys who are very concerned. And what can
Leyland do about that, really?

Well, except for the two times they scored 19, "But the Tiger offense
against (fill in the blank) was nearly non-existent.

Why pick on Ordonez? He's their most consistent hitter. In the entire
history of baseball, I'm sure that there has not been a season when one
player is responsible for all of a teams wins. Someone else has to step up.
Can't think of anyone on the team who has had a hot streak yet.

I pick on Ordonez because he's last season's batting champ and he
should know better. Last season he was patient and was the reason he
had so many RBI's. Not so this season, yet. As for hot streaks, well
Brandon Inge has extended his hitting streak to four games, during
which he is batting .363. Thames also has a .363 average during his
current three-game hit streak. Take them where we can get them.

Ordonez is on pace for 101 RBI.
