Generally speaking, this is a bad deal. Ichiro is usually a lock for
100 runs scored, .300 avg, and 30 SB. He is a career .300 hitter
(.327 to date) and has scored 355 times and swiped 124 bases since
2001.
He is still hitting close to .300 (.297) and his lack of run scored
can be attributed in large part to the slump that the heart of the
Mariner's order is currently in (though I would like to see his OBP up
a little bit more than it currently is)
Millwood on the other hand is a bit inconsistent in the wins category
(10-13 in 2000, 7-7 in 2001, 18-8 in 2002, 14-12 in 2003, 1-2 so far
in 2004) and his ERA (career 3.7

is a bit higher than I would like
for a deal like this.
Don't get me wrong, I think Millwood is a solid pitcher with good K/IP
and BB/IP ratios, but I do not think this is a good deal unless you
are in dire need of pitching and can afford to sacrafice runs scored,
BA, and stolen bases to get it. Actually, I would try shopping him
around and see if you can make a better deal first.
To answer your question: Yes, I think Ichiro will turn it
around--it's only the middle of the 3rd week of the season---still a
long way to go. If it were the All-Star break and he was still
putting up mediocre numbers, then I would be worried.
