Some Hope

As badly as we are disappointed by the Mets play this season, at least
we have some expectations that they might be in post-season play. It
is not as bad as it was in the early 60's and other times.

I do think a good housecleaning is in order but I doubt that they
will be able to get rid of a lot of the dead wood. I'll give Joe
Smith one more season. If he falters again in August, then we know he
is not major league material Keep Maine, Wright, both Reyes, Evans,
Murphy, Chavez, Church, Beltran. I think I might offer Easley a 1
season contract if he is a free agent this year. If we can score a
better catcher, go for it. Not too impressed with Schneider and
Castro is injury prone.

Just that cleaning house is more difficult than it once was.
FA's with long contracts and indifferent performance...why so many
rightly complain about Castillo signing.
He will block the way for potential youth for several years.
And a farm take time to develop.
Whats going on with the pen is unbelievable.
Smith is not the biggest problem out there.
Heilman blown up maybe 10 times...Wagner 7.
Throw in 10 more for the rest of them.
Those were easy wins.
Any decent pen the Mets would have 15-20 more wins.
Won't get better soon, it's like Willie never left with bullpen
handling.
