| I think it's been a few years since I watched a league championship
trophy ceremony, because I've usually been unhappy with the LCS
outcomes. Have they been using "honorary league presidents" ever
since they got rid of the real league presidents? How long is the
term for an honorary league president?

it was back in 2001 that they named Jackie Autry honorary president of the
AL and Bill Giles the same for the NL ...
Honorary presidents enjoying their role in Houston
07/12/2004
HOUSTON -- There are no longer league presidents in Major League Baseball,
but there are honorary league presidents at the All-Star Game.
Once again this year, these posts were filled by Bill Giles, former
president of the Philadelphia Phillies, and Jackie Autry, widow of Gene
Autry, who was once the owner of the Angels.
The honorary league presidents introduce the managers of the two teams at
the opening All-Star press conference, and may or may not use the occasion
to make partisan remarks on behalf of their league's All-Stars. Last year
Giles followed this approach. This year, Autry did.
"As you all know, last year the American League let the National League slip
one past us and we did not bring home the championship to the American
League," Autry said. "And as we also know, this (All-Star Game) counts again
for home-field advantage, so that's very important for us.
"Last year, Bill Giles went into a long dissertation about his father
(former NL president Warren Giles) going into the National League clubhouse
and how he would try to get the National League players all revved up about
how important this is.
"Well, I'm here to tell you, Bill, that I'm not going to send you a crystal
ball again this year, because that's our bet. And secondly, I'm going to
tell you right now that the American League is going to win this contest
this year, because you've only won two of the last 16, kiddo." >> Stay informed about: Honorary league president Jackie Autry |

Thanks for the quick reply. Nothing against Autry and Giles, but it
might be nice if they named new people every year, as a way to honor
those who have served the game. >> Stay informed about: Honorary league president Jackie Autry |
