I'm ordinarliy not one to blame coaches and mgrs for players' shortcomings,
but when a group of players underperform, you have to consider the
possiblility that coaching may be failing. Our starters, with the exception
of Kuroda (who is snake bitten) have stunk up the place with disturbing
regularity.. most troublesome are their inconsitency and propensity for
giving up early runs, particulary worrisome on a team with very little punch
and a lot of judy.)
The relievers are not exactly pitching their socks off either, witness
Proctor and Brazban today. ( I know, Park and Kuo did a bang-up job
yesterday, but it's consistency I'm talking about.)

I don't know.. just throwing this out for discussion. Do you think a change
in coaches might jerk the pitchers out of this?

Well.....I don't know what it is today and I am too lazy to look it up but a
day or two ago the bullpen had the second lowest ERA of all NL bull pens.
ERA isn't really the best stat so you would have too look at runs scored
against, how many inherited runs they allowed, etc...but does it just "seem"
like they are inconsistent? Seriously I don't think a change in pitching
coaches is going to do the trick. Just my .02

The bullpen is alright - the struggles are most likely a result of
overuse. Until the starters start making it to the 7th inning on a
regular basis, the pitching on this team is going to struggle. And
Torre doesn't help things by juggling the 5th starter spot - it just
guarantees one game out of 5 that the starter has NO chance of going 7.

As far as the coaching goes, the point doesn't seem to be getting across
about throwing strikes - if Honeycutt can't get the starters to
listen and/or find and correct the flaws in their mechanics, it's time
to find someone who can.

Seriously, though, did anyone expect different of a starting staff
that's 60-80% (depending on whether Loaiza is the #5 guy) the same as
what ended last year?

Yup change Torre. There's absolutely no justification to continue to
allow Jomes to play everyday when Ethier has out preformed both him
and JP.(And the m was intentional. Andrews to wide for just an N)

Jones doesn't play everyday. I'm wondering if a stint in the minors would
help him "recuperate" and perhaps make him more enthusiastic. He's already
stated he's very embarrassed about the situation and is working hard, so
this guy is most likely not feeding off his salary for fun.
