It has been 8 days since Scott Hatteberg was designated for assignment.
Has anyone heard anything further about what will become of him? The 10
day window is just about up.

isnt he a guy with a reputation for "playing the game the right way"?
i would think that clubs would be jumping on this guy.

I could see him with the Red sox. They have Casey who is essentially
the same player, but Ortiz status is uncertain (effect of 'roids
wearing off?). Hat is still a moneyball guy to some degree.

Teams may be waiting for him to become a FA. So they can get him for
nothing.

I havent heard anything about him. I did hear some speculation that
the Red Sox could be interested in Bonds.

What do we have here?
A first basman who put up an OPS of 868 last year?
You would think a lot of teams could use that. It would rank him 9th in
the league right ahead of Joey Votto.

but...
He put up an 868 ops last year, but the home road split was pretty
significant. Away from the haven of GAB, he's been pretty awful for the
last two year, around a 730 OPS. That pushes him from 9th down to 20th
or so.

He can't play anywhere in the field other than first and most teams have
a player they are in some way committed to at first. You won't sit
Konerko, or Delgado or Millar in order to play Hatteberg.

I don't want to say he's openly complained about pinch hitting, because
he's too much of a professional for that, but he has not succeeded in
the role and there have been press reports that he's not happy in the role.

He'll be pretty much free in a couple of days. Somebody will pick him
up. It will be interesting to see who does and what they do with him.

Just saw that Scott was officially released yesterday.
