He has released Greg Meyers and replaced him with
the formidable slugger Ken Huckaby as backup cather.

I assume that with Meyer's departure Ted Rogers is out another
$600,000--for nothing.

Just because there is 210 million in the bank JP thinks that he can throw
money away?
What about the exchange rate?

That 210million seemed to be a 'vote of confidence' for JP by ownership.
That means 3 more years of JP

Nope. According to the Star, the contract was structured so that the Jays
are not responsible for the remainder of it if Myers chooses to become a
free agent. They're on the hook for $93,000, which is payment for the time
he actually sat on the bench or played.

Myers was designated for assignment but chose not to accept it. Normally,
that would mean suspension without pay, but in Myers' specific case, he
could opt out of the contract and become a free agent. A highly unusual
contract and perfectly suited to what Myers was trying to accomplish in
likely his last year as active player.

It's a wise move. Zaun is the man and Huck is a fine backup. Stop
complaining. Jays will be fine. I predict 85 wins.
