1. I believe Johnson was not on the DL at the time the
trade was suggested, though I may be wrong about that.

2. This is probably true, whether or not the previous
line was true. (And the more I think about it, if you
were to select a random day from the professional career
of Nick Johnson, including both time in the minors and
majors, the odds might be fairly decent that he would
not pass a physical. He's a good player when healthy,
but he's had a lot of bad luck with injuries).

There is no DL in the winter so you are right about that. There are doctors
ready to give physicals. Johnson broke his leg late in the 2006 season. Who
knew it would be so severe he still isn't playing? He definitely would not
have passed a physical and I'm sure the Nats would have volunteered that
info beforehand.

I liked Shields (but he's been better than I'd have guessed) and did
not want either Kennedy or Figgins. I didn't know enough about the
other Angels to have an opinion.
