For some reason unkown to man Neife is Lelyands boy and I hope Shelton

just guessing here, but maybe it's easier to cover first base than a middle
infield position? Remember, too, that Shelton hit well last April and May,
so they probably take that .388 with a grain of salt. It's not like Shelton
is a proven major league hitter.

But take away that great April and early May, and the Tigers don't even make
the playoffs.
He carried them in a lot of those early games.

brian:

I would rather he play every day down in Toledo and learn to hit
consistently than to sit on the bench as a 3rd string 1st baseman.

==================================

anytime he's up with the big club, shelton would be considered casey's
prime back-up...for now, it's likely our newly paid STUD shortstop, with
a little bit of thames thrown in...AFAIK, sheff won't be playing 1st
unless a disaster takes place

You never know what Leyland says to the players on the field to keep up
the confidence, but if you are Shelton you have to wonder why they are
putting Thames on first base.

In a pinch Carlos and Ivan have both played first base, so there area
enough short term 1st base back ups.

I wonder if maybe they might get Perez some playing time to right
himself. He isn't an all-star, but probably a better player than what we
have seen with the Tigers. If you want to trade him, you have to find a
team that wants him. For that to happen he has to play some and look
better than what he did at the end of the eyar.
