Say what you will about Gomez (Alan), but he is definitely
"exciting to watch"...sometimes. Tonight was one of those
sometimes.

Gomez hits the cycle for the Twins in their shutout of the ChiSox!

The last player to hit the cycle for the Twins was Kirby Puckett
in 1986.

Way to go, Carlos!

Hail Carlos!

When he ran, nearly sprinted around the bases after the leadoff HR in
the first inning, I had conflicting thoughts:

1. He's hot-dogging again, but then,
2. He just did the absolutely best thing a leadoff hitter, an ignitor,
is supposed to do. One batter into the game, one run scored. Awesome.
I admit there was a slight grin on my face.

I missed the onslaught of runs as I tuned out after the third inning
and got engrossed in another Jack Reacher novel. I didn't hear about
the cycle until this morning. I think the best part about it is that
Gomez was driving the ball with power. He even said that when he came
up in the ninth he thought about laying down a bunt to get the cycle
but changed his mind thinking, "I can get a hit off this guy."

That's a good sign.
