Like this little blurb:
As quoted in Wednesday's Daily News, Torre also mentioned the designated
hitter division of labor:
We want to keep the DH spot available for a lot of reasons: Jason, one,
Bernie Williams, another, [Gary] Sheffield, [Hideki] Matsui. By the time the
division series came up last year, we had a couple of guys that were
exhausted.
Notice that Andy Phillips's name did not come up. It could be an oversight,
it could be a signal of the manager's thinking. One thing is for certain: If
Matsui and Sheffield are going to get, say, 20 games each at DH, that's 40
more games of Bernie Williams in the outfield than will be good for the
offense.

He also criticized the Yankees for going with a 12-man pitching staff to
begin the season - which of course is a valid complaint.
