You suppose this is the time for him to retire?

Smoltz was guesting in the Skip Caray broadcast booth for PeachtreeTV
last night. He did everything he could to avoid saying Glav was
done. Glav should "assess now, so he'll have time to recover if he
wants to come back." He should "decide if he still enjoys it, and if
he does, he should continue." Blah, blah, blah. Glav should retire.
Smoltz should just park it in the booth.

Glavine mentioned that a factor as to whether he comes back is whether he
fits into the team's plans for next season. I would hope that neither
Smoltz nor Glavine is in the team's plans for next season. The Braves have
a rare opportunity to remake the team this offseason and they need both of
these guys contract's off the books. No hard feelings, it's been great,
even legendary, but it is time to move on.

Everything Smoltz say about Glavine does, of course, apply to Smoltz. Except
Smoltz has another year on his contract if he chooses.

I don't think so. He needed to pitch 200 innings this season. Here's one
reference for that, re: 2009:

John Smoltz, SP, Braves: $12 million vesting option if he reaches 200
innings pitched in 2008; if it's exercised, he'll have a $13 million option
for 2010 if he reaches 200 innings pitched in 2009, $12 million if he falls
short.

Seance in the booth. Or the Braves named the broadcast booth at
Turner Field "The Skip Caray Memorial Broadcast Booth." You decide.

Ah, interesting. I had thought they'd converted his option into
something mroe within his control during the last renegotiation, but
maybe this is how they converted it instead.
