I see that the Astros have brought Geoff Blum back. Any opinions on this
move?

Simple economics. Loretta is a better hitter but costs more.

It's looking like the Astros are going to be unofficially rebuilding
in '08 and will only contend if the NL Central totally sucks.

Good move

Will he die his hair white again. He'll be cheaper than Loretta by
almost $ 1.5 Million, and 2 years younger, and better able to be an
everyday player if desired.

Assuming Loretta even wanted to return... He might want to go
elsewhere unlss the Astros offered beyond the market money. And for
the money he'll probably get, he would probably need to be a starter
for the Astros...

Geoff provides a backup at every infield positio at a good pricen.
That is a pretty useful thing to have.

Oh I think it is official. There are probably only 3 of 8 starters
back from last year... Berkman, Everett and Lee. I thing we can refer
to Ausmus as Coach Ausmus... And he's said he's good with that. The
pitching will be based on which of the low experience starters prove
out. That's rebuilding.

What you hope is that you are rebuilding with at least some parts that
are title-worthy. We may be there in center. But we'll need to add
offense to make up for the sacrifice for defense. And we still need
third and second, and probably catcher. Tow of those three need to have
power.
