LSU Tiger Baseball scored eight in a big 2nd inning and Greg Smith
pitched six scoreless as The Tigers to a 14-4 win in the third and
rubber game of their weekend series at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.
The win, combined with an Alabama loss today, gives LSU sole possesion
of 1st place in the SEC West.
LSU trails Tennessee by a 1/2 game and Florida (by either one or two
games depending on Florida's Sunday result) in the overall SEC
standings. All teams have one more three game series next week to wrap
up the regular conference schedule.
After Tenessee pitcher Luke Hochevar's dominant performance Friday
Night, Tennessee really had no answer for LSU's hitting line-up no
matter who they trotted out there. Give credit to hitting coach Turtle
Thomas for LSU's resilience at the plate.
When Greg Smith and Clay Dirks take the mound for LSU they seem to be
as good as anybody in the country, especially with a rested Jason
Determann in the bullpen to finish the games. When anyone else takes
the mound for LSU, it's a toss up if they can beat a little league
team.
Speaking of Little Leaguers, next week the good guys take on Ron Polk
and Miss State in Starksville.
Geaux Tigers!!
WDS from Baton Rouge
