Great... What does $50M buy you? Center stage in a steroid controversy
apparently...

Problem I see is that even if he got his career year out of a bottle, the
investigation is not going to pursue the users, just the supply chain. So
without a conviction or a positive test, the Angels would likely be forced
to eat that contract even when his performance resembles that of his
previous lackluster seasons.

Sure there is no evidence yet, so I will have to reserve judgement on the
guy, but why on earth would he be a customer of a Florida pharmacy when he
lived in Cali and worked in Texas? Only reasonable explanation would seem
to be that he could get something at that pharmacy that he couldn't get
elsewhere.

And when asked, he didn't deny it. If it were me and I was innocent, I
would have shouted it from the rooftops the second the report came out.

If evidence of guilt comes out, there is NO WAY I cheer for this guy.
Knowing the Angels, they will do whatever they can to void the contract and
if forced to eat it, not play him by any means necessary short of going with
a 24-man roster all season.

Lifetime ban on all juicers, I say. MLB has to go Kenesaw Mountain on their
asses if they hope to clean up the sport.

Gotta agree with you on this but it's a question of money and when $$
are involved people tend to get all wagon-encircled so I don't expect
much to happen except maybe an "investigation".

Great...looks like we got the next Adrian Beltre and by that I mean a juiced
career/contract year for the team to eat for the next 5. I don't EVER think
you should pay that type of money to a guy who had 1...count 'em....1 good
year and that year happens to be his contract year. Then his name magically
pops up under suspicion. The only difference from him is Beltre wasn't dumb
enough to leave his footprints behind. Yeah...another nice pickup by
Stoneman. I forsee Gary Matthews being back to his old ways for the next 5
years....that oughta do wonders for our offense.

Man....and just when I was getting excited about spring training games
starting tomorrow...this must just be a bad dream...

There was an article I saw recently saying that Matthews was given a better
offer from the Giants but chose to go with the Angels. He may have been
better off there, their fans embrace cheaters rather than boo them.

That is ridiculous. It was't even against the rules then, If true at least
he was attempting to help his performance. That puts him way ahead of all
the coke snorting fools of the 80's and 90's. Also the greenie guzzlers of
the past. And what about all the drunks, past ands present? I thought it
was a foolish signing before this, but one cannot just assume that his
entire improvement was based on pharmecueticals (extremely unlikely) or that
even if it was that he will revert back to prior levels.

OK, he says he didn't take the stuff. I'll give him the benefit of the
doubt, but there is doubt about his innocence to be sure.

Still, I am not one to indict on the flimsy evidence before us. Now if he
had maintained the Big Mac defense... Namely 'you can ask and I won't deny
it'... That would be different.

There's no way anyone can prove he did take HGH. It's only detectable by a
blood test and MLBPA won't ever allow the drawing of blood.I truly believe
that massive numbers of players have used performance enhancing substances.
I would not be surprised if several past and some present Angel players
have.

It would be pointless for them to allow it; the blood tests can only
detect HGH for 24 hours after it's used. And I don't think anybody is
crazy enough to expect anybody to give blood every single day.

And, quite frankly, I don't really give a damn.
