I'm wondering if Francona will preach patience against Petey tonight to
get his pitch count up early, like the Yankees used to do. If they can
get him up ~100 pitches by the 5th and the game's still close, I like
our chances. Assuming Beckett pitches like the Fenway Beckett, not the
Road Beckett.

Except from what I gather he's got more of a mixed bag of tricks at
this point...which I think would make him more dangerous than his old
FB/slider/change fare.

The two sox players with the best record against Pedro are Kapler (2-5
with a triple) and Willie Harris (2-3).

Manny: .138/.138/.172 in 29 PAs (13 Ks)
Papi: .200/.250/.467 in 16 PAs (6 Ks)

You got me wondering...when was the last time Petey faced Papi and Manny?
Has he ever faced Youks? This should be very interesting.

How DARE you question the Mighty Pedro...after all the lepers he cured,
the dead he raised, the K's he put up...to suggest that financials may
have clouded his motives is sacrilige!!

You, sir, are no Sox fan. Off the island, scoundrel Wink

After tasting mortality for the first time after he hurt himself in
that 1999 All Star game, I wondered if he'd ever be able to transition
to a control pitcher in his twilight years, mindset-wise. Physically I
always thought he could because of his location, but I didn't know if
his ego would get in the way. It looks like he may be making that
adjustment.

Now you've done it. Don't you know you're suppose to stand and cheer...show
the love for all he did for us. I loved the part yesterday when he
recounted how there was no joy in Fenway before he joined our pathetic
little ballclub. I guess he had such a great view from that hotbed of rabid
baseball hysteria in Montreal...where they routinely filled that park (yeah
right). The guy has the greatest ego in the history of baseball.

And for bringing us all that joy Petey was only paid EIGHTY FOUR MILLION
DOLLARS. WE are so fortunate he sacrificed...all for us mere mortals.

I loved having the opportunity to see him play here. Without question the
greatest pitcher (including Roger) I've ever had the pleasure to see in
person...and they each actually pitched for my team...for awhile anyway.
But if we owe anyone for that, I almost hate to admit it...it's Duquette for
bringing them here in the first place, (actually the credit for Roger, may
be Gorman's maybe? but I hope you see my point) and agreeing to pay them so
much of our ticket and beer proceeds.

Thanks Petey...for the good times...but also for selling out to the highest
bidder in spite of the nearly 100 hundred million you were already worth.
Thereby teaching us a valuable lesson in business and loyalty. Thank you.

Perhaps a call-up of Enrique Wilson is in order for today?

Did Pedro call the ball club "pathetic" or is that just you? Did he
say his impression of the negativity at Fenway was based on what he
learned in Montreal, or was that just you? I'm an easy grader, but I'm
afraid I have to give you an F, both for failed sarcasm and lack of
objectivity.

Did you at least grin when Pedro said he wanted to wash away the
negativity in Boston by throwing a bucket of water on CHB? Or does
your strong dislike of Pedro cause you to lose what little sense of
humor you may possess?

I assume you do concede that the atmosphere in Boston baseball has
changed radically since Pedro. If not, you are really missing the
scene. Fine if you don't want to give Pedro any of the credit for that
change (or for a similar but less dramatic change at Shea, or so I'm
told). The credit may properly go to Millar, for all I know.

Yesterday, you were telling us that Pedro had this fragile ego that
made him insecure in the face of Schilling, the v. good pitcher for
the RS who would never claim to be in Pedro's league (and Schill has
an ego --- he's just not nuts about it). Now you tell us that Pedro
has "the greatest ego in baseball history". Wow. Never heard of Reggie
Jackson, I assume.

True, but in pitching, it's usually evolve or die. Fireballers have to add
more pitches as they lose velocity. He's still pretty hard to hit and will
likely be pumped up, so it will be a challenge.
