As I noted all last season, Lenny DiNardo is not a major-league
pitcher. He has no business being on a MLB roster. Alan Embree? A
career of inconsistency.
Huston Street? Irrelevant as long as the A's play like this. He had a
save opp already, and he blew it. Bringing him in to a game in a non-
save situation? Never a good idea, either.
Much to the disgust of A's faithful fans (who once again have to put
up with the bandwagon Red Sox fans in too many ways), the A's blew
another winnable game on this young season. In reality, they've had a
good chance to win all four games. And of course, in their usual
fashion, they only have one win to show for their efforts. At least
only a few people over 21,000 had to witness it in person, though.
Harden? Good.
Offense? Bad. Losing to Jon Lester at home, just one week after
roughing him up ... it's going to be a long season for this team.
Seven hits in the first two home games f the year? As we watch Frank
Thomas and Nick Swisher all season, remember -- they were part of that
2006 team that had home field advantage in the ALCS.
The A's owners are idiots for refusing to spend money and try to field
a winning team.
A's Record: 1-3
A's Should-Be Record: 2-2 >> Stay informed about: Game 4: Here we go (again?) ... |

No, TK, the A's owners are not idiots; they're cheap. I've been making
this point in another thread in the newsgroup. Some posters don't like
my word cheap; one of them used the term "frugal," which is OK with
me, or "tight" or "stingy" or "miserly."
Whatever term we use the circumstance we describe is their refusal to
pay talent, refusal to create a broadcast retwork that reaches their
fan base, even refusal to cultivate the great Bay Area market,
satisfied instead to sulk in a small sliver of the East Bay and whine
that they're a "small market" team, which allows them to collect and
pocket a share of the "tax" that MLB lays onto organizations actually
willing to pay for talent, and pocket it, even though it's supposed to
be used for onfield improvement, aiming toward competitiveness. A's
ownership isn't willing to compete if it means paying ballplayers, and
their meanness caught up with them in 2007: 76-86,

Can't say I disagree much with any of this.
Heck, it seems Beane is more interested in the new San Jose soccer
franchise than he is in the A's. >> Stay informed about: Game 4: Here we go (again?) ... |

Beane has become just a number-crunching errand boy. Ownership tells
him "Use your statistics (which cost nothing to look up online) to
find us someone we won't have to pay much and who won't be in a
position to ask for more for years." And Beane and the scouts salute
smartly,
