After dragging the game out to 12 innings it was almost
anti-climatic. Lead off double and base hit by the Game
boy. No outs, no drama, no full count 2 out do or die.
It's as if they suddenly decided they wanted to go home. <g>.

Phew....looks like another great series in the works.

The game illustrated several of the reasons that the Giants are in
trouble this season.

Once the Dodgers decided to walk Bonds every time up, their offense
pretty much died.

The Dodgers' relievers gave up one hit, and had 6 strikeouts, in 6
innings. Gagne went two innings and had 3 ks.

The Giants' bullpen gave up 3 hits, and got ZERO strikeouts, in 4.1+
innings of work. The Giants' closer Herges gave up hits to both
batters he faced.

Even when things go well for the Giants' bullpen, they don't dominate.
Every reliever in the Dodger bullpen can dominate. Even with the
extra innings, the Dodgers will have a very fresh Sanchez in there for
tomorrow, as well as Alvarez - so they will be in good shape for
tomorrow's game, with two relievers better than anybody the Giants
have.

At this stage I think Bonds should be walked every time, not just as a
baseball strategy, but because I think it will make his head explode
in frustration.

I think I still have one nerve left in my body that is not completely
shattered. I am sure I will be ready for the rubber room by Sunday
afternoon. I absolutely love this stuff. Give me more.....

I don't know about all season, but since Bonds is hot right now, it's
a
good thing to do in situations where pitching to him can get you beat.
I don't think I could stand listening to all the idiots at Dodger
Stadium who don't understand that the point is to win, not to see who
will win the battle between the pitcher and Bonds if it went on all
season.

Long term, of course the Dodgers will have to pitch to him - I say let
the
league work Bonds' frustration up before they do, though.

BTW, to anyone who watched the game on TV - did the plate umpire's
strike zone
suddenly change about the 6th or 7th inning? - from where I sat, it sure
seemed
to.

It came alive for the first 3 innings but other than that nothing. For
some reason that just puts a smile on my face. : ^)

I don't understand why Gags was brought in in the 9th. I'd understand if
Tracy wasn't going to give the BB. It worked and I'm not complaining
just curious. Unless he didn't think DD could could get the top of the
order before bunny came up.

I kinda feel sorry for Herges, he just doesn't seem to have what it
takes to be a closer. He has 5 saves this year but he doesn't seem to
thrive in that position like Gags does.
