WOW, what a crazy and wild game. And probably the stupidest managed
game I've seen in ages. Polaso (?S) could be seen mouthing GOD DAMN IT
!!! after the winning run crossed the plate. Well he'd better not be
swearing at anyone but himself. I count 3 mistakes he made in that
9th. inning. 1. Guthry (S?) had the Sox in hibrenation the whole game,
swinging at first or second pitches all day. Not to say the Sox hitters
weren't trying, but that's what it looked like. And you take him out at
91 pitches after a catchers error? To preserve his good feeling? That
worked out nicely now didn't it? STOOOOOOOOPID !!! 2. Brings Ray in
for what is barely a save situation. The same Ray who already blew a
very winnable game to the Sox with the Wily Mo grand slam. 3. Walking
Hinske intentionally. This may be very arguable but I don't see not
going after this guy who has done nothing offensively this year.
They say Beckett's problem is a cut on a finger and that it's not as bad
as a blister. I'd think it would be worse. His post game sounds like
he might miss a start.
Knowing how much care hitters take with their bats I was surprized to
see so many of the guys using those pink bats in the actual game.
Now off to try to grade this one, where the starter leaves after 4 with
an injury, the defense makes a mess of errors, and the game is won on a
2 run error. That outta be fun.

Starting pitching:
Can't grade Beckett on a 4 inning start he left due to injury.
Best/worst he can get is an "incomplete".
Relief pitching:
Romero gets a " + " for the 1.1 innings that finished the game.
Pineiro gets a " - " for the 2 runs given up in 1.2 innings.
Offense:
Here's the strange one. Base running is offense right? Lugo gets the "
+ " not for the little ground ball but for the speed that caused the
panic in the Os pitcher and first base man.

My first comment: WOW. Amazing. That was awesome. I was driving and
listening to the game on the radio. I had to pull over and focus
completely on what was happening.

Completely agreed. Why take him out? I mean, great for us, but at 91
pitches? The guy had BAFFELED our lineup. It wasn't even his fault
that the ball was dropped by the catcher. Leave him in there, the
worst he can do is give up a 2 run HR, and then its 5-2. Then you
think about pulling him to let your bullpen blow it.

This is going to be one of those "wait and see" things. If it's really
just a cut and he doesn't throw for a few days it could be fine. I
wouldn't mind him missing a start (only if he really needs to miss
it). If he does miss one, could this be a opportunity to bring Lester
up and give him some innings?

Oh comon, you can't give this a 1. Despite poor managing, the sox
hitters took advantage of it. 6 runs in the 9th to win it AT LEAST
deserves a 2, if only because they were shut out through 8.

My mistake then. I was reffering to the Mily Mo grand slam. >> Stay informed about: Game 36---May 13th.---Don's grade/thoughts !!! |

Don't they only do the red jersey for a home day game? I haven't
really been paying attention to it this year but I thought thats when
they wore them. >> Stay informed about: Game 36---May 13th.---Don's grade/thoughts !!! |

The Lorax says:
<<Holds: 21>>
As I've suggested before I have problems finding "holds" listed on the
box score I use. And others I've tried. And with night games I'm not
inclined to search for them for long. I may have to discontinue doing
them. As well as the "vs. lefties" catagory. I never seem to get that
one right anyway.

I assume you mean the Wily Mo gand slam. I went back and checked (Knew
saving these things would come in handy.), and unless there's some other
game I've forgotten, that game was at Baltimore, and the homer was not
in the last inning. Both mean it could not have been a "walk off" win.
The other mistakes you pointed out are legit however.

Despite Lowe pushing them, it was management that created them. I
distincly remember a quote saying "We are the Red Sox, our jerseys
should have more Red on them." I forgot who said it but I have to
believe they still like the red jerseys. Look for them next day game. >> Stay informed about: Game 36---May 13th.---Don's grade/thoughts !!! |

Jeremy Guthrie was pitching great. but this was the first time he had
gone past the 6th inning. Many managers would not have wanted him t
taste trouble after such a great outing, and all would assume that
their BP could do the job. >> Stay informed about: Game 36---May 13th.---Don's grade/thoughts !!! |
