Galarraga was obviously trying to hit Mauer with those pitches.

A warning on the second attempt is bullshit.

He should have been ejected rather than Gardenhire.

Did you see the look on Mauer's face after the second pitch. It was

As far as Perkins' near-bean pitch. I was listening on the radio and
Gladden said that Perkins is getting so that he starts every game out
that same way: just hamming the inside to establish where the inside
of the plate is. He says it's really annoying to a batter when a
pitcher does that, and Perkins was annoying batters all night long.

Why not answer the question? It wasn't a comparison, it was an
analogy. Intent, not result, is what matters. He went in with intent.
He shouldn't face less of a penalty simply because he was unable to
execute his intent.

Instead of talking about irrelevant and imaginary high school debate
teams, why not address the question. Why does failing at the task make
it okay?

The other thing that miffs Gardy is when his guy gets thrown at, and
the ump warns both benches. He runs out and screams something like :
"Why are *we* getting warned? We didn't do anything [under his
breath: "yet."]. He didn't have such a clear case to be made last
night since Perkins was involved early (though probably not
intentionally).

I would not want to be the first Tiger batter to come up with the
bases empty and 2 outs tonight. Who knows? maybe Scott Baker is too
nice a guy.

Ummm, he was warned wasn't he? I didn't see it, I am assuming it was
inside? So, when the 2nd inside pitch happens (kind of showing the intent
to pitch inside and make him move) there is a warning.

Do you know he was trying to hit him or just move him? Maybe you had a
conversation with him to know the intent?

I think the beef should be -- and I'm sure this was why Gardy got tossed --
that Galarraga should have gotten warned after the FIRST pitch that got
thrown at Mauer... I honestly don't blame Galarraga, he's just upholding
the silly "MLB Code Of Honor" that says you throw at Mauer when Guillen gets
his bean buzzed...

The problem and IMO incompetence is from the home plate ump -- who was it
last night, anyway? Not only did he call a horrible strike zone (a couple
of strike threes to Kubel and I think it was Granderson were just terrible
calls) but he totally blew it on Galarraga's painfully obvious first message
pitch! Any ump with half a clue would've picked up on the fact that Guillen
and likely all the Tigers were royally pissed about that fastball at
Guillen's head... so Galarraga throws at Mauer at the first opportunity --
BEHIND him no less -- and the home ump just lets that go? What a dolt...

Exactly. the warning should have come with pitch one...which was a
blatant bean attempt. The warning after the second was just lame.

Yep, no wonder Gardenhire blew up on him.

It will be stupid to continue it as it seems like it should be over now.
Kind of even, Tiger gets hit, Tiger pitcher not quite so even but yeah,
intent. Actually, Tigers should finish it tonight and hit someone as they
still haven't. (j/k)

Nobody was hit yesterday an I agree it should be over (looks like it was).
These teams see each other a lot in the near future, I don't think we need
an escalation at this point.
