| Can someone explain to me why Gabbard wasn't send down and a relief pitcher
brought up? I know we don't like to do those things, but we sure could have
used more bullpen help today and you could always have called up someone
else for the next start. I was thinking this last night in the third
inning.

THAT is a great argument for sending him down.

Look at a freaking map. Plus, they still have Gabbard slated for at least
one more start.
Put the blame for this one solidly on our hitters. >> Stay informed about: Gabbard |

Yeah, we score one freaking run and it's the pitchers fault. Also, if
you send Gabbard down, he can't be called back up for ten days. >> Stay informed about: Gabbard |

I'm surprised too. I expected them to do that, and then call up a
different pitcher for the next "Schilling" start. Given the
circumstances (overtaxed bullpen, Gabbard's poor start), it made
sense. My only guess is that maybe they couldn't have gotten a
reliever to fly out to Seattle and be ready to pitch on such short
notice.

Or 15 days for pitchers. (baring another pitcher going on the DL). >> Stay informed about: Gabbard |

It is asking a bit much to put a pitcher on the plane for a 6 hour ride,
and then expect him to be useful that same day. If they intended to
replace Gabbard with a reliever immediately, they probably should have
sent the reliever to Seattle with Gabbard in the first place, even if he
wasn't
going to be put on the roster until after Gabbard's game. >> Stay informed about: Gabbard |

They had no instention of replacing Gabbard because he is going to
start at least one more game. If they sent him down, he wouldn't be
able to for 15 days. >> Stay informed about: Gabbard |

I didn't say that they did or should. Only that IF they had an intention
to do so with a reliever to be available for the next night, it would have
been smart to get the reliever out there early, rather than sticking him
on a plane at the last second, so that this fictional reliever could at
least
get a night or 2's rest before pitching. I was being hypothetical. >> Stay informed about: Gabbard |

I think that IF they did have that intention, they would or may have
had a reliever available. >> Stay informed about: Gabbard |

Two m ore since Schilling seems to be scheduled for to Pawtucket rehabs.
It'll be easier to see who to keep as a starter after two more starts
for Gabbard as well as Tavares.
