This team needs to be blown up. Start almost from scratch, and at least see
the future over the next season or two.
If I were GM, these are moves I would make as soon as I could get the best
deals:
1. Trade Gagne at the deadline, assuming he stays healthy. I LOVE him, but
the best closer in the history of the game - healthy - many contenders would
need that at the end of the year.
2. Trade Teixeira before the deadline. He is not part of the future, and
WILL leave when his contract is up. He is now over .300 and hitting the
ball well. His value is about to peak.
3. Trade Sosa as soon as someone calls with a good prospect. His value is
as high as it gets, he will drop to the low .200s eventually, and he is a
known cheater.
4. Waive Wilkerson. He has no trade value, and takes away a roster spot
from anyone that would be more effective.
5. Love Millwood, but if he turns around the year, and there are good
offers of prospects, take it for the future. No fire sale - but for good
prospectS - at least 2-3 solid ones.
6. Bring up Hurley. Welcome to the bigs. Tough Love.
7. If you have any callers, trade Padilla. Not consistent, not future, and
a timebomb waiting to explode.
8. Keep Young, Blaylock, Kinsler, and Laird unless there are INSANE offers
for any of them relative to their value. They should be built around for
the future.
9. Fire Washington after all the moves are made. Get a proven, veteran
manager in here. Not a Buck-type, but one that has a rep of being able to
handle young players.
10. By the way, for me to be GM, Daniels has to go also. No move appears
to work out that he has made, other than the no-risk moves to sign Sosa and
Gagne.
I love this team, but it makes me sick to see where it is.
