Tonight the Sox begin their second series against the Oakland A's. The
first series was at The Cell and marked the return to Chicago of one of
baseballs best hitters, ever. I was at that game and saluted Frank
before his first AB. Frank's perpetual "foot in mouth disease" didn't
impede my respect for he accomplished in a Sox uniform. I was not
surprised to see Frank bash two HRs that night.

Following are a few comments from Phil Rogers column today, "Can't
doubt Thomas' Hall credentials after torrid season:"

"Thomas, the greatest hitter in White Sox history, won the MVP in 1993
and '94 and finished second in 2000, third in 1997 and third in 1991.

"Since the BBWAA started electing MVPs in 1931, only 10 other players
have finished in the top three at least five times. It's quite a list.

"Barry Bonds, nine times. Stan Musial, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle and
Henry Aaron, seven times. Willie Mays, Yogi Berra and Joe DiMaggio, six
times. Mike Schmidt, Alex Rodriguez and Thomas, five times.

"If Thomas somehow should slip into this year's top three, not out of
the question if he keeps hitting like he has recently, he will have as
many top-three seasons as Mays, DiMaggio and Berra. White Sox fans were
lucky to have seen him hit for so long, even if the outside noise made
it hard to focus on his skills after he won the batting title in 1997."

Take it easy on the Sox these next few games Frank.

Ok, Frank didn't heed my request. Fitting I guess that Frank tosses
some dirt on the grave of the '06 Sox.

Best wishes to Frank in the post-season. First I'll be rooting for the
AL Central teams in the post-season and then, as I almost always have
done, I'll root for the AL in the World Series.

No, not the biggest mistake the Sox have made. They just won the World
Series in '05 and it was their first championship since 1917. They no
doubt made dozens of big mistakes in the years between 1917 and 2005.

Plus every team except for Oakland passed on Thomas. So the Sox
weren't alone in thinking he was done.

> You don't treat a HOF guy like that.

Oh, BS! How did the Sox treat Thomas wrong? Thomas is a future HOF,
but he's also a HOF complainer.

Dr. Crawdad!

I have good news!

It seems that Wisconsin will be happy to take you! Several contacts, of
mine, are willing to offer you a good apartment up there (way up
north). So you can happily, and securely, move as soon as possible!

You don't have to thank me now!

A follower of a particular team, keeps track of the games through every
option available, every game. That includes national broadcasts, newspaper
articles, box scores and so on. I might be a little handicapped considering
that I hadn't subscribed to MLB broadcasts and that I don't live in N. IL.,
but I can also read. Considering your comment that I offer nothing but
"opinions" sounds quite PC (sportsmindedly). However a newsgroup such as
this is a place to participate in written conversation, be it opinions,
facts, reasonings, and variable interests.

It also shows what he's capable of. What would you say if next year, he hits
fifty HRs? Would that be unreasonable. It does appear that you're
expectations of Dye's capabilities are limited. I don't recall him cranking
many long balls after their post-season possibilites were considered
unlikely. Dye's proven all along to have a quiet personality and a lot of
integrity.

I can agree that Rowand would have won us 7 or more games, but then how many
would they have lost without Thome?
It was good to see Thomas start a new career in Oakland because he deserved
it and I hope the best for him. The upper management pretty much had lost
faith in Frank's health - and that was understandable. But without Frank in
'05, there would never have been a post-season. He proved - as long as he
wasn't on the DL, that he had matured and was there to win.

> > Hopefully, little changes will be made for next

Let's just hope that KW doesn't do the same eratic things that - was it
Shaeffer (?) had done to the '94 team and its pitching staff. That was the
team that was definitely going to bring into fruition the 90's dynasty.

Pardon my mingling Jeff, but where do you get "off" with this
incessant-intolerable nonsense?

No pardon necessary. A Chicago resident who is NOT a fan of the Chicago
Bears is pure dirt. This Crapdad gave me a lot of grief throughout the
season, and I don't intend to let this go.

Incessant? Maybe.

Intolerable? We all tolerate what we can.

Nonsense? I think I am making PERFECT sense. He's a Packers fan and has
no right to breathe the same air that I do.

That's pretty good coming from an Indianapolis Colts fan.
