"That's the toughest [meeting] I've ever sat in on, and I've had them where
they were getting rid of me," said hitting coach Terry Pendleton.
....
Chipper: "It's not quite as extreme as your kid brother being traded, but it
had the same effect because it came out of left field."
....
"This is my 32nd year in professional baseball," Wren said. "I didn't have
to make many decisions in the early years, but in the last 23 making
decisions, this was the toughest. It's tough because you care about a
player, you care about a team, and all the ramifications. But at the same
time it's one of those tough decisions you've got to make because you do
care."
....
"Everybody struggles - we all do," Jones said. "But this is a game of
adjustments, and pitchers have made an adjustment on Frenchy. And he has to
make an adjustment back. It's got to do with pitch recognition. It's got to
do with using the whole field."

Chipper Jones: a lot smarter than you'd have guessed.

I want to think from past quotes that chipper has maybe tried to communicate
this to Francoeur, without interest reciprocated.

Indeed.

I was just trying to explain to a friend how lame Francoeur's career has
been. He appealed to the 29 HR/100 RBI 2006 season. I didn't want to go into
stats like OPS+, which he'd just dismiss, so I pointed out that in Frenchy's
"best" season:
--he had a worse HR/AB ratio than Andruw did in 2007
--had a worse OBP than Andruw did in 2007
--had almost as many strikeouts as Andruw in 2007
--had the same number of GIDP as Andruw in 2007.
I also pointed out that even in Andruw's 2007 season he was able to rustle
up 94 RBI, so Frenchy's 103 wasn't necessarily all that impressive.
Frenchy's best season with the bat was about as equal to a season from
Andruw that everyone agrees was horrible.

For a wonder it actually worked.

Francoeur did. The decision came out of left field.

And was the kid brother comment a reference to the Drews? Weren't they
briefly on the team at the same time?

I don't think so, I think it was just a way of saying that "he's like
a brother to me".

Tim and JD were both Braves in 2004, but both left in October to free
agency.

Tim! See, I was sitting here thinking "WTF?! Stephen Drew has never
been a Brave."
