Keith Foulke has decided to retire after feeling pain in his throwing
elbow at the start of spring training. Foulke had an up and down 10
year career but he should forever go down in Red Sox lore as one of
the biggest heroes in ending the Sox World Series drought. During the
one postseason where Mariano was mortal Foulke slid in and took his
place. Foulke threw 14 innings in 2004 and gave up one lone run in the
World Series. Against the Yankees Foulke threw 6 innings in 5 games
and didn't give up a single run. He was unhittable.

Honestly, if he does retire the Sox should have him come back for a
game and let the fans salute him. Given his tough last couple of
years, he deserves to be able to walk out onto Fenway Park and have
the fans all stand and give him a huge ovation. It would cost the Sox
nothing, and would be a nice gesture for a guy who, like you said, is
as responsible for that championship as anyone was. >> Stay informed about: Foulke Retires |

Bringing him back would be overkill. But they could have him throw
out the first pitch in the home opener. >> Stay informed about: Foulke Retires |

wow. It's not that surprising though after reading that interview he
gave a few months back where he was mentioning retirement. He was
awesome during that 2004 run. He was awesome alot of other times as
well. He was a great closer. >> Stay informed about: Foulke Retires |

When I said "bring him back," that's what I meant -- not as a player,
but to sort of have a "day". >> Stay informed about: Foulke Retires |

actually he didn't become hrt until steroid testing got serious.
now i do realize no red sox ever used steroids, our guys are all pure and
nomar, trot and foulke having the types of injuries associated with steroid
withdrawal is just a coincidence. >> Stay informed about: Foulke Retires |

Steroid withdrawal? Connective tissue problems occur during usage not
after. The problems caused post usage are mental, not physical. Are you
being serious? >> Stay informed about: Foulke Retires |

Ya think he's Jesus or something, sheeesh?
Think he walked away from the Sox payday because he's a nice guy?, Im sure
he just plays for the love of the game. He signed another contract before
retiring. >> Stay informed about: Foulke Retires |
