I realise he is now playing above his head (no pun intended), but how good
is this guy? Is there anything in his minor league career that indicates he
can be a good major league infielder on a regular basis? Or is he just
another Scott Thompson or Bob Speake (Remember him, tks and Paddy Waggin?)

I do remember Bob Speak... He was a refreshing flash in the pan (so to
speak).

No pun intended.... It was fun though.
All those HR's he was blasting...

OT... on a personal note... Claude, my
mother died yesterday and I spoke with
my cousin Starr.... she of course had to
make sure I tell you hello from her...

So, hello from Starr... Smile

Claude, Got this off the Orioles Web Site. Fontenot hit .462 in CWS
2000, Selected to CWS All Tournment Team. 2004 hit .279 at Ottawa. BBA
named him 7th best prospect in Orioles Organization pryor the 2005 season.
Comments by Scouts on 2-1-2005 "Scouts love Fontenot's line drive stroke.
He's big field hitter who makes consistent and hard contact". I noticed on
his AAA numbers this year that his Walk to BB was low. But what we have
seen so far he has shown good patience at the plate. Hey I like this kid
and if he can hit .280 he's a perfect two hitter.
It's like having two leadoff hitters a
head of Lee. That will create first ining runs.

Thanks, Wolfer. Let's hope he's a late bloomer.

I think he hit more homeruns in those two weeks than he did in all the rest
of his career.

Yep...He came out of nowhere and suddenly started hitting homeruns into
the RF bleachers....That is until they learned how to pitch to him.

Lasted two years with the Cubs and then traded to SF.

Looked up his baseball bio and discovered he is now 77 years old...YIKES!

tks
