Naw. The Padres got hosed on that. Very tough call though.

I froze it on my dvr and played it very slowly. I really think he might
have touched it, and you can see the catcher stepping on holidays foot as
hard as he can. But who knows.

That is why I thought he scored. His foot eventually slides across home.
Pretty tough to do with cleats on when you start in the dirt unless you're
standing on top of moving flesh.

Take off the purple glasses, no he didn't. Wasn't even that tough of
a call.

Barret didn't have possession of the ball when blocking the plate. It
is all moot and arguing it is for losers.

Directly from the official MLB rules on the MLB.com website:
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/runner_7.jsp
An explanatory note relating to Rule 7.06 (obstruction)
"NOTE: The catcher, without the ball in his possession, has no right to
block the pathway of the runner attempting to score. The base line belongs
to the runner and the catcher should be there only when he is fielding a
ball or when he already has the ball in his hand."

The operative phrase here is: "...fielding the ball..."

The way this rule is interpreted is that if the catcher is in the process of
receiving a throw, even though it's before he physically has possession of
the ball, he may block the plate.

The point is moot, you going to argue a moot point?

Why yes... yes I am.
The poster presented the argument that it didn't matter whether he touched
the plate or not because of a rule, which he misstated. My point was that it
did matter, and if Holliday missed the plate, the umpire blew the call.
Identifying errors and problems so that they can be avoided in the future is
a worthwhile effort, even when it can't change the result of the play that
caused the contraversy.
