While Ramirez was the entire weekend focus, another major talent quietly was
rumored to be on the block. That would be Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, one of
the few performers in the game capable of making a very good team great.

Are you saying Rodney had good control? Look at all the full counts he
had!

Pudge and Thames both seem to swing an aweful lot at high fastballs. It's
unnerving to watch, especially for Pudge.

Yeah, but Pudge is way past his prime these days. His days are
starting to become numbered, IMO.

I'm saying he's working the hitters. Not a bad thing. The result was
acceptable. Yes, I want him to work on throwing strikes more consistently,
but, there may be some growing pains along the way.

well, that's what I'm saying. Agressive power hitters do that, especially
when they're slumping. In the case of Thames, I'm sure as h*** going to
overlook some bad swings for the power production he has had.
Remember Lance Parrish, with his prolonged stretches of swinging at the low,
outside pitch?

Yes, I think Thames is forgivable, considering the production he
has put out for the Tigers this season.

Pudge? Not so much so....but the guy is in the sunset of his career,
so some forgiveness should be given there, too, IMO.

And yet, if they had won 4 to 6 more in April and May, no matter who they
beat, where would they be now? Who you beat only matters when you're behind,
and the Tigers put themselves in a big hole in April and May.

It seems like there's no in between with him. It's either a HR or an out.

As a matter of fact, yes. If I recall correctly though, his major weakness
was curveballs.

Considering his current role on the team, I'm okay with that.

I don't know that I'm ok with that. Joyce has just under half the AB's as
Thames with half as many HR's, a higher (BA, OBS, SLG) and seems to get to
the foul balls better than Thames. Though he does have 2 errors (vs. Thames
3 errors) in the outfield I'd rather have Joyce instead of Thames.

Rob Deer was always the guy that made me cringe when he came to the
plate. With him it was either a strike out or a home run. Rarely did
he do anything else.

uhhhhh, okay, but you're off somewhere else now. I was strictly speaking of
Thames power hitting, not debating who should play LF regularly. IMO, for
'09, they should be looking at a new LF and a new DH.
