Let's see:
I drive 3 hours 1 way to see games regularly, and set in one of the
worst stadiums in Baseball (only surpassed by the shitty dome in Tampa).
I buy all kinds of merchendise.
I subscribe to MLB.com online streaming so I can occasionally watch
them play when MLB forgets to enforce the blackout restrictions. I
don't get to watch them on TV due to their piss poor TV contract.
I had spring training tickets for years until they moved their spring
training from Melbourne / Cocoa to Jupiter.
I grew up a Cub's fan. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the two
championships (Yes even '97), but every time the club looks headed in
the right direction they sell off all the talent.
I wonder how much of these plans were made available to Joe Gerardi
before he signed on as the new skipper? Joe's a smart guy, I don't see
him taking over as skipper if he knew he was going to loose a world
series MVP, a gold glove 3rd baseman, and the only decent left handed
stick in the line up. >> Stay informed about: Marlins Fans |

Hey, Thomas,
How many years can YOU survive spending more than your combined
household income? If you ARE a Marlins fan, then you should KNOW the
situation they are in - a can't win!
So, why the hell are you blaming it on the ownership??
I agree with you re: Girardi, but he probably WAS aware of the coming
revenue/expense correction. A chance to manage in the major leagues,
anywhere in the major leagues, is not an opportunity to pass on... your
skills may still be measured by your peers regardless of the
wins/losses >> Stay informed about: Marlins Fans |

I think most of the guys (and gals) who post here do support the team.
The problem is that there just aren't enough of us. This is a
football town, always has been, always will be. I've taken my share
of shots at Marlins management in the past, but they have no other
choices left. Even wealthy people can't keep bleeding money forever. >> Stay informed about: Marlins Fans |

The regulars in here do support the team. Like Mort said, there just
aren't enough of us. Miami is about the Dolphins and the Hurricanes.
That's it.
I know dozens of others who are regular supporters, including past bat
boys and scouts. I'm sure us die-hards pretty much know each other
either by talking here or meeting at the games.
This fire sale that is going on right now, is surely to raise the
profitability by the current Marlins owner. Or try to salvage any
profit he probably wouldn't get by keeping these expensive players
another year.
Rumors flying in Columbus, Ohio. A new baseball stadium begins
construction this coming Spring along the riverfront next to Nationwide
Arena. All along the plan was to build one big enough to draw attention
to a MLB team that wants to move. This could be it! A couple of big
investors I know, I talked to them last night. THEY ARE ALREADY TALKING
WITH MLB ABOUT THE MARLINS. These two investors need probably a little
more money and I may join them.
Two Columbus, Ohio baseball products were going to be in the next MLB
draft, and it would be great to see a Columbus MLB team draft them and
keep the home grown talent right here. It would draw a lot of fans.
I will wait and see where the Marlins move to. If Columbus indeed nabs
them, I will be the first to buy season tickets. Hell I'd probably be
able to get a front office job with my contacts with investors and
probable owners!
If Columbus doesn't get them, then I will probably start to support
whichever team drafts the two Columbus boys that coached for many years. >> Stay informed about: Marlins Fans |

Yeah, they sell off all their talent, I agree, but. . .no offense to the
Cubs, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Marlins win another World Series
before the Cubs do. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if the Marlins win one
before the Yankees do.
I understand being upset watching a team go through a fire sale, but look at
the flip side. Flordia now has more top quality prospects than anyone in the
league, maybe with the exception of Anaheim. Maybe next year will be like
watching a AAA game, but there is most likely going to be some good talent
on that club in the years to come, and you get to see the development. I
wouldn't mind watching that happen. >> Stay informed about: Marlins Fans |

I really do not understand this mentality of blaming the fans...if a
restaurant does not attract enough customers, do we blame the
restaurant when it fails?
Did the fans decide to trade away delgado?
Did the fans decide to buy the franchise after destroying one in
montreal?
If a restaurant does not succeed, the owners may try a new location or
new food or lower prices, but they don't blame the customers.
Portland and las vegas have already said that they will not build the
marlins a stadium, I think those days are past.
If loria doesn't want to be competitive, sell to someone that will be
or to someone that knows how to run a franchise. >> Stay informed about: Marlins Fans |

I too grew up a cubs fan....the white sox management also blames the
fans for poor attendance. the cubs draw over three million and their tv
ratings are through the roof, the white sox (if the same city) draw
(typically) significantly less and their ratings are much smaller.
Reinsdork will have you believe that the is everyone's but his....this
kind of thinking is so bizarre. If customer dont buy the product,
blaming the customer is typically not the answer....
if the marlins leave we will get a new team. baseball could not leave
out the 17th and 38t largest markets (miami and west palm). PS portland
is 24 and las vegas is 51 with no fortune 500 companies.... south
florida has five (one fortune 100), oregon has only one, and las vegas
has three (all casino ranked 378 and lower) >> Stay informed about: Marlins Fans |

Careful. All of the Baseball fans in DC said the same thing about the
DC market.... and it took more than 30 years to get a team back, and it
might only be there for 2 years before it disappears again. And DC is
a bigger market than Miami or West Palm.
If the Marlin's leave, they will be without a team for a long long long
time... and I would be more willing to bet that the Devil Rays relocate
to Orlando and that ends up being "the" team for Florida. >> Stay informed about: Marlins Fans |

First off, if the Marlins go, there will never be at team in Miami
again ever. It's not like attendance-wise they were a success (TV wise
they were, though).
Second, the Drays cannot move becuase of their lease with the stadium,
otherwise when all that contraction talk was going on, they would have
been first in line by a long shot (and still deserve to be contracted).
They will not be moving any time soon. >> Stay informed about: Marlins Fans |

This has got to be the worst time for the Marlins but Loria is playing
his cards impressively.
If the state of Florida and the City of Miami won't give the Marlins
the stadium they deserve (two world series in the past ten years, only
surpassed by the yankees who have three), Loria is going to threaten to
move the team elsewhere if he doesn't get the stadium he wants. He is
going to put up over $200 million and the Florida won't contribute $70
million. There is something deeper happening and the Marlin Nation
won't find out until the team has officially moved. But I think it is
a scare tactic, he won't really move the team. It will be interesting
to see if Loria gets his stadium now. >> Stay informed about: Marlins Fans |

Ever is an awful long time. I think that if the Marlin's move it will
be a long long time before they get another team, but if the
Metropolitan Area grows in size, they will eventually get another shot.
The current viability or non viability of a market has nothing to do
with the viability or non-viability of a market in 30 years. 100
years ago Boston, Philadelphia and St. Louis were two team viable
markets. 36 years ago Seatlle was not a viable market.
> Second, the Drays cannot move becuase of their lease with the stadium,
Sure they can. If they are really not financially viable, all they
have to do is file for reorganization under Bankruptcy, show the court
that if they break the lease they can satisfy all of the creditors for
100% of their debts and poof... the lease can be made to go away. That
no MLB team has done this yet, does not change the fact that this
tactic has been used by many businesses to get out of bad contracts and
leases.
> otherwise when all that contraction talk was going on, they would have
> been first in line by a long shot (and still deserve to be contracted).
Except that contraction was really being raised in order to force the
players to make some concessions and to "blackmail" some Cities into
building Stadiums. It worked on the players, it didn't work on the
Cities as neither Minnesota nor Miami have built their team new
Stadiums. The attendence in Minnesota is too high for MLB to credibly
pull the franchise and this effort by Loria is the latest attempt to
try to blackmail a city. It hasn't helped that MLB has, in fact, shot
one hostage (Montreal) and is continuing to try to extract more and
more money out of a Robbery Victim (Washington DC) becuase they have
determined that it is a wealthy victim. (The demands on DC may result
in one of the fanciest and most expensive Stadiums ever built with a
lease agreement that is perhaps one of the sweetest in the History of
the Game for MLB. ) If DC had held harder, the region would still
likely have gotten the team, and the Miami Blackmail effort would
probably not be going forward. (Miami is further complicated by the
fact that, somehow, the owner of Joe Robbie has been "convinced" not to
offer them a lease in the future.)
> They will not be moving any time soon.
And I believe that it is more likely than not that they will end up in
Orlando within the next 5 years. >> Stay informed about: Marlins Fans |
