Is there a good reason why Perlozzo sent up Fahey to hit for Markakis
against Papelbon on Sunday, in the middle of a 9th inning rally with
the bases loaded? (Fahey struck out.) I was only following on the
internet -- did Markakis get hurt or something? If not I'm not sure
what Perlozzo was up to there. Just because Perlozzo plays Fahey in
left field doesn't mean Fahey hits like a left fielder......
And while I'm on the subject of Perlozzo, I note that last Sunday
against the Yankees, he had Mora sacrifice *in the first inning* after
a leadoff double. (Tejada then struck out and Gibbons grounded out to
leave the runner at third.) Then in the 2nd inning Patterson bunted,
after which the runner was stranded at third due to much the same
circumstances.
I just can't understand what Perlozzo was up to there. He has a
pitcher on the mound (Rodrigo Lopez) with an ERA over 6 on the season,
pitching to the Yankees' offense, and he's playing for one run in the
first inning with Mora at the plate?
