The Tampa Bay Rays are in the ALCS and very well could end up in the
World Series. They have a payroll of $44 million. Most of the team is
homegrown, brought up through the farm system. One of the starters,
Evan Longoria, is a rookie on this team, went to the All Star Game and
is contributing very well. The Rays won the AL East with 97 wins, 2
wins more than Boston. The AL East is not exactly the NL Central.
Stuart Sternberg became majority owner in 2005. In 2006, he hired Joe
Maddon as manager. This team has been a welcome mat for the AL for
many years. Now look at them. Playing the Boston Red Sox at Fenway in
the ALCS and at this moment beating them convincingly with the score
being 5-0.
I guess the entire point of this posting is I'm venting my frustration
and jealousy. Why can't the Pirates do this??? The NL Central is not
exactly the strongest division in baseball, but the Cubs were playing
quite well. Yeah , we can blame the Nuttings for just fielding a team
and nothing more. But as Tampa Bay has done, why can't the Pirates
organization put a competitive team on the field which would mostly be
brought up through the farm system? I realize that Stuart Sternberg,
GM Andrew Friedman and Joe Maddon did not put this winning team
together overnight, but it did not take them long to turn this team
around. And they did with only $44 million. Their stadium, Tropicana
Field, is not exactly Camden Yards.
I do wish Jason Bay a good playoff season, but I hope like hell the
Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox and move on the World Series.
It'll give me some glimmer of hope that one day before I die, the
Pittsburgh Pirates might actually get to the playoffs. But I'm not
ever going to bet on it. >> Stay informed about: Someone Please Explain..... |

Pittsburgh can't do it because they are owned by a MORON! What was revenue
sharing this year? That's what Nutting will use to pay all of the salaries
throughout the organization. He has a gimmee lease on PNC that gives him no
incentive to put a winner on the field. He is a greedy jerk that knows how
to maximize profit while systematically screwing the taxpayers of Allegheny
County.
Going for 17 in '09!!!
Going for 18 in '10!!!
Going for 19 in '11!!!
This is a record that will NEVER be broken. The Nutting Nothings; MLB's
Washington Generals!

Bad drafting.
Exhibit A BJ Upton, who has been homering up a storm this
postseason. He was the second overall pick of the draft.
With the the first pick, the Pirates picked Bryan Bullington.

39-47 again - The Pirates have won 4 in a row to get to 39-47. That's great but, I was checking on where they stood at this point (86 games) in the last several seasons. Other than last year, when they were horribly bad in the first half, they have been just..
