Here's the notes ESPN radio put online from the Matt Kata
interview on the Dan Patrick Show Friday:

===============
"Matt Kata , Diamondbacks 2B- (3:13) On being called up
from the minors: "It's awesome to get called up. I walk in
to that clubhouse everyday and I am in awe....Seeing Grace
in the shower...I don't know how to say it but it's the
coolest thing to me...and even being called kid by Mark
Grace is the coolest thing." Mark Grace is old enough to
be his dad..."He smokes as much as my dad too!" Let the
shower jokes begin!!!!"
===============

Here are my notes (which I never posted because it
was a pretty banal conversation):

===============
matt kata on dan patrick

schtick about podsednik's name and kata's name "al-kata"
"kata kaelin" kata says "plethora" in sentence form, blames
vanderbilt "are you surprised at how you've contributed"
kata: "matt kata's only one man" chit-chat about getting
a taste of the big leagues

i walk into that clubhouse every day and i'm in awe
seeing grace in the shower for ten minutes to take all
the pine tar off his hands

these veterans are old-school and you know they're
ballplayers, they're the names that get thrown around...

it's the coolest thing...the handshake
from grace before the game every day...doesn't have the
weird handshake...just grips it and says 'go get it,
kid'...just to be called kid by mark grace...

shilling's great, on the bench talking a lot with
rookie pitchers...they slide in next to him and listen
to the conversation...all the guys making you feel real
comfortable and part of the team

the way we're playing now the starting pitching we're
getting and the way the bullpen's coming in, getting
schilling, johnson, mantei back, guys stepping up, finley's
raking, gonzo's steady, we gotta be the team to beat

my time here is up in the air
12 game streak, awesome in the clubhouse

in the game it's killing grace sitting on the bench, he's
got a bat in his hands then in the shower the whole time
grace is talking to you, he's trying to get every little
speck of pine-tar off his hands
===================

ESPN is desperate for attention if it edited this
down to that.

Your notes? Pardon me, but isn't that... ummm...
a bit pathetic?

I heard Dan saying Kata was coming up, and I figured there
might be something worth posting here in the interview,
and I took notes because I don't have an eidetic memory,
and it turned out to be a pretty airheaded piece of radio
from both sides.

I saved the file because I thought I'd look at it later and
there'd be at least something worth excerpting in the light
of the past, but no, it's still banal.

Then I happened on the blurb on ESPN and decided the whole
thing was evidence. ESPN's desperate.

"Plethora notwithstanding."

I wouldn't say the edit "savaged" Kata so much as it made him seem as if he
were looking to join the road company of "One Man Out"..... couldn't Dan at
least have made it plain that the interesting thing about Grace in the
shower had less to do with how much it reminded Kata of his Dad and more
about the comedic events involved with the pine tar?

Then again, Dan would have had to ask Kata just how it was that Gracie wound
up with pine tar in places that would =require= a shower to get off......

Ah, well, as amateurishly as Kata's played the last two days, he deserves
whatever "savaging" he gets; I haven't seen a position player flail that
often and that badly at everything thrown in his vicinity since Oscar Azocar
retired.....
