Dontrelle Willis demoted... all the way down to single A

http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080610&content_id=28824

"The Tigers had seen enough. In a direct response to his rough outing on
Monday night, Detroit on Tuesday optioned the contract of lefty starting
pitcher Dontrelle Willis to Class A Lakeland."

"Willis, who signed a three-year, $29 million contract after arriving in a
December trade with Florida, has walked 21 batters this season in 11 1/3
innings."

"The move came after a nightmarish outing for Willis on Monday night. He
lasted just 1 1/3 innings, giving up eight earned runs on three hits,
including two multiple-run home runs, and five walks."

Put a fork in him?

+++

Heck of an outing from the kid; Hamels last evening.

Pity they lost it for him. I turned the telly over after he gave up dinger
#2 to pock-face-puke.

I think Gordon needs to be rested for a couple of games. He does well for a
few appearances , then seems to lose something on his fastball.

The Phils need a win tonight. The Marlins are talented and confident...a
good 11-0 shellacking is what they need.

Maybe it has something to do with his torn labrum that he's been
pitching with for the last 3 years? Just ask Conlin:

I only had the radio -- but how does Utley get himself caught
off of the bag like that (was it the 8th?)? That was huge,
wasting Howard's hit.

Watching on TV, Utley goes in to break up the double play. Howard's slow,
and he's grounded pretty much a dead-play DP ball. But, weird, the toss to
second is late. Utley is safe. Utley touches the bag with his sliding foot
but his weight carries him to the right of the bag as he grabs the 2nd
baseman's legs - again - to break up the aforementioned DP. Yeah, Utley
made a mistake, but how many times does the guy coming into second try and
break up the DP and come off the bag? Every time?

But, I will tell you, Howard was definitely running out his ground outs.
That was nice to see.

Yes - tonight is "must win".

Okay, thanks -- sounds like he probably figured he was going to
be out anyway.

>Yes - tonight is "must win".

Yep. The difference between losing 3 games and 1 game in the
standings.
