Dontrelle started his first game back from rehab for the Tigers last
night (6/3) and pitched very well. He did give up five walks but he
threw four scoreless innings of two-hit ball. That is encouraging.
Galarraga took over for Willis in the bottom of the 5th inning and
walked two of the first three batters he faced before Eric Chavez took
him deep for a game-tying homer.
Galarraga retired the final seven batters he faced from there, keeping
the game tied for Carlos Guillen's seventh-inning single to pull the
Tigers ahead.
Unfortunately, the Tiger bullpen failed it again giving up 2 runs
including a 2 out in field single in the 11th that won it for the A's.
Bobby Seay put the winning run on the bases and took the loss but it
was Fred Dolsi's bad pitching and fielding that really cost the Tigers
the game. He walked Bobby Crosby on 4 pitches and then Jack Cust
grounded a 1-2 pitch between first base and the mound. Cabrera fielded
the ball, but Dolsi was late off the mound to break for the bag. Cust
beat both of them to first base as Kurt Suzuki came home with the
deciding run.
Before this game the Tigers designated The Crusteacean, Francisco
Cruceta, for assignment and purchased the contract of left-hander
Casey Fossum from Triple-A Toledo to take his spot. Against Oakland,
Fossum gave up a single to Eric Chavez who then advanced on a walk and
scored on Travis Buck's single when Ivan Rodriguez couldn't handle
Clete Thomas' throw home.

I (thankfully) missed listening to the game last night, but it sounds like
an all-too-typical Tiger performance. Different relievers...same results.
Thanks for the capsule summary, though. You spared me ~three hours of agony. >> Stay informed about: A Dontrelle Willis Sighting |

Five walks in four innings?
I guess the "Wildman Willis" nickname still fits.

"Bobby Seay put the winning run on the bases and took the loss..."
OK, so with the Pistons and Wings, who has really been watching these
bozos, esp on a late-night west coast trip? That said, it sure seems
the above sentence has repeated itself about 3-4 times the past 10
days. In the words of the Great Randy Smith: "YOU try to trade
him..."

Actually, they did....if the bullpen hadn't given up the late runs
and given the win to the A's.

Why not? Other good teams can win with 4 runs.
Why can't the Tigers?

Oh my. Barrel is empty from scraping bottom and wood slivers are
embedded underneath the fingernails of Dombrowski.

Bobby Seay has been involved in too many of the bullpen implosions not
only this season but last season as well. I would think he's the next
relief pitcher to be designated for assignment.
On a more positive note, it was reported that Zumaya had a good outing
in rehab and threw well without pain. No word on when he or Rodney
will return. It may be too late anyway.

That's right Twins' fan. Focus on the negative instead of the more
positive "four scoreless inning of two hit ball". Typical.

It's much easier to throw hitless innings when you are throwing
garbage and walking everyone.
Although, it's not a strategy I think will work very well for very
long.
