Everyone suggests he will waive his no-trade but why would he? He is free
to sign with any club after this season without compensation I believe???
He holds all the cards. If he is a first class guy then I think he would
waive the clause. The Jays were good to him so lets see how good he is to
the Jays and waive his clause. Otherwise we get nothing in return except it
would free up money next yr for something more reasonable.

It's hard to understand why John Olerud refused to waive his no-trade to
accept a trade to a contender like the San Francisco Giants. He could play
with Barry Bonds and would have a chance of going to the world series. Maybe
he doesn't like Barry or the manager Felipe Alou or whatever?
The Seattle Mariners will have a new team next year.

"Jays GM J.P Ricciardi said (Thursday) night he will soon ask the superstar
first baseman to waive his no-trade clause, which would enable the franchise
to deal him by (the) July 31 trade deadline.

"However, his agent, David Sloane, said the slugger wants to remain in
Toronto.

"'Carlos isn't going anywhere, he isn't going to waive his no-trade
clause,'" Sloane said in a telephone interview from Miami.

Did it not also say Sloan said if a club was offering a contract extension
they were interested?

as usual, Mr. Margarino has put his finger on the heart of the matter.
Perhaps a different finger than Carlos gave Ricky Riccardo, but a finger
nonetheless!
