Really enjoy watching DeRosa play the game.
He will never lead the league in homeruns, rbi, average, hits, stolen
bases, fielding percentage, whatever... but he does everything the way
he is supposed to.
When he signed with the Cubs he thought he would be starting at
secondbase but he has also been asked to play third, first, short and
the outfield and has done so without one complaint.
He also has batted just about everywhere in the lineup also without one
complaint.
I'm not sure that Cub fans really appreciate what he has given this team.
He is just one solid baseball player.

I totally agree. There were many in here who complained about his signing.
He is an extremely valuable player to have on a team. He adds so much to
the depth by not having to have backup players for most positions. He can
just about play them all.
Izturis was not a great signing, IMHO. But looking back now so far most
all the offseason moves Hendry made seem to be working out pretty well.
Cotts has been a bust to date.
I am excited about how the youth are playing and contributing both pitchers
and position players.

As one who was somewhat against the signing, I also like it now. Had I
known that Piniella was going to play the best players and not the
highest salaried ones, I would have approved it at the time. I thought
DeRosa would be useful but feared he would be guaranteed to start ahead
of Theriot, who just might be better. I must say though that DeRosa
is playing better than I thought he was capable of.

Izturis was acquired during last year and was not an offseason move.
I still think the Cotts trade was a good one, though he may turn out
to be a bust. Cotts is struggling, but he has shown he can be very good
and is worth taking a chance on. The Cubs only gave up Aardsma, who
will not IMO ever amount to anything, and another pitcher who was
likely to get lost in the glut of young Cub pitchers and disappear
in a Rule 5 draft.

You are correct. I'm really just thinking back to moves made over the past
year I guess. Trading Maddux was fine and the right thing to do. Like
you said, though, Piniella has not shown that he's going to play only high
paid veterans so Izturis is not getting all the playing time which makes the
trade more palettable.

True. I thought the Cotts deal sounded good at the time. Hopefully it'll
still pan out. >> Stay informed about: DeRosa |

On the bright side, so far I believe Aardsma has hurt the Sox more than
Cotts has hurt the Cubs.

Right now he is the player we cannot lose for any lengh of time. He's
covering too many position's. He has been an excellant backup for Aramis
and will most likely get some playing time at 1B when Lee serves his
suspension. Hey this guy has got 47 RBI. He would get a lot of votes for
MVP in the first half. >> Stay informed about: DeRosa |

I also at the time thought the DeRosa signing was a bad idea; to
give a 3 year deal for a 32 year old player coming off a career
year, who was never very good to start with to be the everyday
second baseman (according to Hendry).
Pineilla is clearly calling the shots now, and DeRosa has been a
huge asset. I also wonder if Perry has had a positive influence.
DeRosa already has the 2nd highest walk total in his career despite
only playing 76 games. He's only 15 off his career best. >> Stay informed about: DeRosa |
