I saw my first Washington Nationals cap "in the wild" yesterday, on a
guy at a shopping mal in San Mateo, CA. I would've said something to
him, but I was on lunch and didn't have time for a confrontation before
I had to get back to work. Smile

Do wish I had my Expos cap on, though (I still see a few of the
tricolour caps per month, on the heads of the local teenagers as a
"style thing).

Why would you confront him? It's not like DC stole the team. The fact
that no one has actually paid for the franchise shouldn't upset
anyone. Smile

Two questions. First, how could you tell it was a Washington
Nationals cap and not an old Washington Senators cap? From what I've
seen, they look identical.

Second, what in the world would you confront him about?

It was the blue road cap with the white "W" that doesn't seem to have
existed before (looking at the shop section on the Nationals website).

Also to Roberta, who asked basically the same question:

Not so much confront, as in saying "you stole our team" (God knows, if
the Devil Rays wanted to move to Montréal in a couple years, I'd welcome
them.), but more along the lines of, "Hope you enjoy the team that
rightfully should be Montréal's." Also, warn him about the
backhandedness of Major League Baseball.

Right on, brother!

I'm on the verge of tuning my back on MLB, or maybe I'll cheer for the
Pirates. I've been visiting their newsgroup, and a lot of the griping
sounds familiar.

No, they didn't. Montreal was dead as a baseball city (for a myriad of
reasons which have all been discussed here ad nauseum) and DC was the
next choice (maybe not ours, but it has worked out that way).

(God knows, if
>the Devil Rays wanted to move to Montréal in a couple years, I'd welcome

Absolutely. Especially if Charles Bronfman bought them!

>but more along the lines of, "Hope you enjoy the team that
>rightfully should be Montréal's."

Nonsense. A team that draws 4-10,000 fans per game deserves a better
host.

>Also, warn him about the
>backhandedness of Major League Baseball.

Yup. Although screwing DC would not be an easy task. The city hosts
the country's best and highest paid lawyers!

Then, you should also be old enough to know that MLB is a business, and
always has been. If you want "pure" baseball, go in the back yard, and
throw a ball around.

I live in the DC area and I am glad we got a team. However, I WILL NOT wear
their hat for the next 4 years because it has a "W" on it and I do not want
someone to think I support someone with that initial. That someone lives in
DC.

I am sorry Montreal could not support a team. I know how it feels losing
something you love even if you are a minority. I lived in Denver and we
lost the NHL Colorado Rockies to New Jersey and we averaged around 11K per
game. Not enough though to keep the team. The bottom line is all that
counts.

Just one more instance of Democrats being goofy.

No, it is out of respect for the 1,400 brave US men and women who have lost
their lives fighting a war, and for the tens of thousands of innocent women
and children who have lost their lives to the bombings by the US and the
terrorists we have, through our actions, allowed to enter the country of
Iraq.
