I don't know about Portland, but the groups in DC and Virginia have
both put their foot down and demanded that MLB give them at least a
conditional commitment of Expos to their locale before proceeding with
any further stadium financing plans. I'm glad they have finally
decided to stand up to the greedy lords of MLB, who have been making
too many demands for too long without being willing to commit to
anything. If Selig and company don't change their tactics, they may
end up being stuck with the Expos in Puerto Rico indefinitely.

I have a sneaking suspicion that MLB wants a team in Puerto Rico more than
DC or Portland.

I have a sneaking suspicion that MLB wants a team in Puerto Rico, Portland,
Oregon; Portland, Maine; Tucumcari, N.M.; Schenectady, N.Y.; Ames, Iowa; or
Sioux Falls, S.D. more than D.C. (or northern Virginia). I think we all know
why...right, Peter?
