Haven't heard or read much about who or what the DBacks are looking for
in GM meetings or over winter. I guess bullpen help is obvious, but
what about SS, 2b, catcher, cf? Anyone heard anything?

Nothing yet in the way of rumors. Baseball Prospectus just did a
"Prospectus Notebook" entry covering the D-Backs and it's their take that
Josh Byrnes isn't one to make trades before he's completed his analysis of
what he's got. Byrnes, for instance, was the guy who went on the record
putting the kibosh on the Manny Ramirez-to-Anaheim trade rumors.

Presuming he's been busy burning the midnight oil to get ready for the GM
meetings, I wouldn't be too shocked if the D-Backs do a deal of some type
during the meetings, but I also won't be too shocked if nothing happens.

Yes, the team has a lot of needs, but there's no guarantee they'll find
somebody willing to do a deal at a price they can accept. It seems likely
that they'll try to unload somebody (Glaus, Green, Gonzalez or Tracy) to
free up some room for Carlos Quentin and Conor Jackson, but it's not clear
to me yet who the takers might be.

I'm all for unloading Gonzo and signing or trading for a real CF, but
hear he's making 11 mil. this season so he's probably untradeable.
Sure he's a great guy and all, but 11 mil for .270 and 22 hrs? yikes
