I can't find anything before 1908. Besides, you should go to
alt.sports.baseball.chicago-cubs instead. Your post is better suited in
there.

1908, the year the Merkle Curse was born.

??? It's not spam, it's not obvious trolling, and it is actually
about baseball. If rsb where so busy that dealing with all those
posts about specific teams were a problem, that might be different.
As it is, rsb is very nearly dead. Anything actually about baseball
is all to the good.

Agreed on all points. I fail to the problem.

Maybe he thought that the cubs group might have a better idea of the
history of the Cubs, although I personally would doubt it.

I would have personally crossposted to both groups, but the impression I
got from the reply in question, is that he kind of considered it
off-topic here. Looking at it again, he may have just been trying to help.

I thought that this group was meant for more general issues and the
team groups for team specific questions. The OP started by expressing
his like of the Cubs, so I really think that asbcc would have been the
right group to post it in and slightly off topic in here. This group
would be quite crowded if everyone gave their chants in here whenever
their team is on a roll. The question about the Cubs record was maybe
not in itself off topic, so I guess that we land somewhere in between.
Not much to make a big deal out of.

In general, that's probably a good way to go, but when it comes to stat
questions, I think you'd be more likely to get an answer here, because a
lot of people here are heavily into that type of stuff.

That's why I would have crossposted it to both groups, as it would be of
interest to Cub fans in particular, but the question would most likely
be answered from this group.
