I stumbled across a website called The Baseball Crank
(thediamondangle.com/crank/index.html) hosted by one Matthew Wall. I
found the articles there to be pretty well-written. Unfortunately,
the last entry was in 2001.

Is anyone familiar with the website or Mr. Wall? Whatever happened to
the Crank?
