This guy has been on a tear lately; 16 HRs in roughly 250 ABs. I'm thinking
he could potentially be a 40 HR hitter if given the oppurtunity to start
night in and night out. He's still fairly young, no? I believe his average
is around .270 or so...

..285 BA and 42 HRs sure would help our offense for next year...

I'd naturally love to see Craig Wilson succeed, but I *really* don't
like his batting stance. I'm thinking that as a ballplayer, CW will
experience a very rapid decline phase, that once his reflexes become
only slightly slower, he'll be unable to hit the low, outside strike.

To give credit where it is due, Paul and other statheads have been screaming to
get Wilson some more at bats.

To bad it took this long for Mac to figure it out.

I won't argue the point except to ask - since he's only 26 why would you
expect any of that to happen in the next few years?

Even if you're right I can't see any reason he wouldn't be a cheap,
adequate or more first baseman for the next four years before any
decline starts to set in.

Are you sure he's figured it out?

Even with everything that's transpired this year his playing time is
going to finish up somewhere between his 2001 season and 2002.

At this point it looks simply like Rivera's failure to hit and the Giles
trade have left few other options as the season winds down.

If the Pirates were smart they'd avoid any arbitration nastiness and
give Wilson a modest 4 year deal and stick him at first full time, but
his strike out totals aren't ever going to endear him to McClendon and
as long as he's manager Wilson is going to be the odd man out.

Hope I'm wrong, but doubt I am.

Is that all we get credit for? How many currently on the Wonder Hamster
bandwagon were ripping "the signing of Milwaukee's cast offs" in the off
season?

I was not trying for a comprehensive evaluation of all you comments.

Accept the compliment, and move on.

I will produce a detailed evaluation of all your comments right after I finish
reading War and Peace. In Russian, which will have to wait until I learn
Russian, which is currently fourth on the list of languages I want to teach
myself, which . . .

Well, you get the idea.
