Hope Johnson's bat is still warm.

Why oh why did they release Cordero? Isn't he leading the majors in
Saves? Man what a dumb move. What they should do is drop an OF or
an OF/1b as they have a bunch of those...

Wrong Cordero:

Notes: Cordero placed on waivers
Guillen expects to play in series at Atlanta
By Bill Ladson / MLB.com

The Nationals placed first baseman Wil Cordero on waivers for the
purpose of granting his unconditional release. The news comes six days
after the Nationals designated Cordero for assignment.

The Nationals had 10 days to trade, release or outright Cordero to the
Minor Leagues, but interim general manager Jim Bowden said that there
was no Major League interest in Cordero and it was best to release him
early.

Cordero, 33, hit .118 (6-for-51) with two RBIs in 29 games for the
Nationals this season. He went 0-for-14 as a pinch-hitter and 0-for-18
with runners in scoring position. He also spent a lot of time on the
disabled list because of a left knee injury.

Injury report: Outfielder Jose Guillen told MLB.com on Monday
afternoon that his right wrist injury is "pretty bad." But he vowed to
play in the three-game series against the Braves in Atlanta.

Guillen hinted that he most likely will miss the first two games of
series, but is expected to start Thursday afternoon.

"I'm not going to let the people in Washington D.C. down. We have come
too far to let them down," Guillen said on the telephone. "I played
with a broken hamate bone in the past. I should be able to play with
[the wrist injury]."

Guillen left Sunday's game between the Nationals and the Astros in the
bottom of the ninth inning after being hit on the right wrist by a Dan
Wheeler pitch.

After the hit-by-pitch, Guillen was on the ground for several seconds
before getting up on his own power. Manager Frank Robinson, trainer
Tim Abraham and assistant athletic trainer Scott Lawrenson tended to
Guillen on the field before the Nationals right fielder left the game.

Guillen was taken to the hospital for X-rays, which were negative. He
has a right wrist contusion and is listed as day-to-day.

Guillen will not travel with the Nationals to Atlanta on Monday.
Instead, he will have treatment on the wrist. He plans to fly to
Atlanta on Tuesday morning.

Johnson to be activated: Bowden said first baseman Nick Johnson most
likely will be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday. Johnson
has not played a Major League game since late June because of a deep
bone bruise in his right heel.

Johnson is expected to get four at-bats against Triple-A Las Vegas on
Monday. On Sunday, he received only one at-bat against Triple-A
Albuquerque because of bad weather.
