At least it's not being blamed on mental lapses, as I suggested. He's
always been prone to kind of slinging the ball, from what limited times I've
been able to watch him.

"After watching closer Chad Cordero give up seven earned runs in two
innings, St. Claire said that Cordero has to fix some mechanical issues on
the mound. Cordero is throwing three-quarters sidearm instead of coming over
the top.

"When he goes down and away, the ball goes middle in, and you can't command
the fastball," St. Claire said. "If you can't command your fastball, you are
in big trouble."

Chad suffers from asthma. Maybe Coors Field the the one place he should
never pitch? Do any of those stats include his peak flow meter
readings? Wink Also, he has gained weight since the season began.

Hmm, weight gain........... Plus, family issues, trade rumours, new team
everything, predictions of historic failure........ a little of going
through the motions.... fatigue...
Yet, a great record from middle May to before last week.
Sometimes I'm not so crazy about going to work, either.

but then you don't get paid what he gets paid to play a game.

True, but that might be even more of a burden and distraction. But, I've
made enough excuses for him. Maybe he is and always will be average. There
are very few closers doing better than him and many more who are worse. I
don't see any other option in the short term.

Wait a minute. We're talking about a couple less than stellar performances.
The average team puts up with that from their closer every few weeks. He's
had one bad (really bad) and one mediocre appearance since May. Let's give
the Chief some time to work through it before throwing him under the bus.
You may not see any other option, but I don't want any other option. This
is a young guy who's had a couple of bad outings. Remember last year when
he led the league in saves, but so many of them came with the winning runs
on base? Until he starts blowing 5-10 saves in a row, let's give him the
props he's earned.

Same here. I like Chad and see no reason to get rid of him. Both Rauch
and Ayala (who was the closer for a short time with the Expos) are
injury prone. Hopefully, Nats fans can act like better fans than those
Skins fans with their endless quarterback controversies.

Take out my last sentence above and see if everything else I've written
about Cordero, including the detailed stats, doesn't agree with everything
you've written here.
The sentence was, perhaps, a poor attempt at soliciting an opinion from
ruref about who he would suggest to be a replacement/upgrade for Cordero.
