I missed the first two rounds (actually listened to the end of
Hamilton's run on the radio in the car ... it loses something in
translation). But I had a suspicion Morneau would win the final. We've
seen it before. The guy who mashes in the first round has nothing left
by the end.
Not Justin's fault by any means, but I think he sent a lot of fans
home unhappy.

Yes, that was actually fun to watch this year. First Hamilton's record
breaking first round, then Morneau coming on strong to win it all in the
final rounds.
This is turning out to be quite the season for Twins fans!

I hope it is foreshadowing for the 2nd half of the season, i.e.
Morneau turning loose the HR power for the Twins. >> Stay informed about: Congrats to Morneau |

Yeah, it was pretty much the Hamilton show last night. His record
breaking first round (28 homers!) was definitely the highlight of the
derby.
Still, rules are rules and Morneau won the contest, so Hamilton's
great first round shouldn't detract from Justin's overall win.

I hope plenty of Twins personnel start calling him "Jason". As I
recall the guy that made the gaffe is VP of Communications for
Farmer's Insurance. Way to communicate, Bubba. >> Stay informed about: Congrats to Morneau |

And I'm hoping he spent all of his power and energy in the HR Derby.
All that aside...Good for Jeff Morneau. He's been a beast this year and
deserves the spotlight.

That was me back in late May, lamenting the fact that Mauer had zero
home runs in two months of play. At the time he was batting .330 or so
and slugging around .400. Now he's batting .322 and slugging .455, the
sort of change in his stats I wanted to see. He's got 3 HR's in June,
2 so far in July. Maybe he will hit a couple more this month, 5 in
August and 5 in September and bury the idea that he doesn't hit many
HRs. >> Stay informed about: Congrats to Morneau |

Well, that's rather ironical.
Also, a notable mention for Mauer who's been playing really solid ball this
year. I still think some of you guys are nuts with what you would've done
about his power numbers, but at least he has hit 5 homers and is leading the
team in runs, doubles and walks. He's second on the team in total bases
(Jason Morneau is 1st with 187) with 137. >> Stay informed about: Congrats to Morneau |

Yes, there are reasons they are both All-Stars.
