Joe Randa: DOB 12/18/69

2005 .276 .335 .452
Career .285 .340 .427

2006 Salary $6,000,000 or thereabouts.

Freddy Sanchez: DOB 12/21/77

2005 .291 .336 .400
Career .280 .322 .377

2006 Salary $400,000 approximately

So the Pirates think it is worth paying all that extra money for Randa
who figures to be no better than Sanchez in 2006. Sanchez also had the
highest defensive Zone Rating of any thirdbaseman in 65 or more games.

If they trade Wilson and put Sanchez at SS it would make some sense.

After watching him manage the Dodgers the past few years that is an
easy comment to agree with. I am quite willing to hear you explain why
Randa will be far superior to Sanchez in 2006. You may even turn out to
be right, but I doubt it.

Interesting! Numbers don't lie. But isn't there more to playing a
game of baseball than the above numbers? IF the above numbers were
ALL it took to run a major league baseball team, then every single
player and every single trade could simply be listed as above and the
Roman crowd at the Coliseum would then need only to raise their thumbs
up or down, depending on the above displayed numbers on the large
screen at the far end of the outdoor theatre.

Do you leave any room open for other statistics, tangible and
intangible? Or is this all anyone needs to fully size up the Pirates
3b situation? And why don't the all the papers and sports TV
outlets in the country simply display these numbers when sizing up
players?

It might be time for somebody to let them in on this.

And while we're at it, somebody oughta give Jim Tracy a call and tell
him about this, because he wanted Randa to play 3b over Sanchez. He
obviously doesn't know what he's doing?
