This shouldn't even be a contest. And I'm not talking about the steroid
boy in New York.

Why isn't Mark Ellis a shoo-in for this award? The guy didn't play all
last season because of a torn labrum, and no major league player has
EVER come back from that injury before, especially to the level Ellis
has played this season.

A second baseman posting .317/.382/.475 with a .857 OPS over 120+ games
in a year after he missed the entire season beforehand? Why is this
award even being considering for a putz like Giambi?

Yes, he won the NL Award, as he should have.

But typical N.Y. media bias got Giambi the award for the AL. Admitted
steroid user, no less, who is probably still using HGH or a new steroid
that can't be detected.

Asinine. I guess it *is* okay to take steroids.

Probably? What basis is there for that claim? Wouldn't you be crazy to
keep using steroids after having practically been caught?

In any case, there's no question that given what we _know_ that Giambi had
the best comeback year. If we put aside your unfounded claim, he
obviously wins.

In all sports, cheaters always stay ahead of the testing curve. And
since HGH isn't being tested for, and Giambi "suddenly" rediscovered
his power stroke ... it's a lot of circumstantial evidence amounting to
the logical assumption he's still juicing. Once a cheater, always a
cheater.

> there's no question that given what we _know_ that Giambi had the best comeback year.

Uh, you couldn't be more wrong here. Giambi only improved his
performance by "x" amount. Ellis improved his performance infinitively,
since HE DIDN'T EVEN PLAY LAST YEAR. Sorry when you go from ZERO to
anything, you're automatically improving MORE than a guy who from "x"
to "y".

That's what some of us actually *do* know.

Pete Rose broke baseball's rules, which he now admits. That means he
cheated. By your definition, that makes him a cheater.

Ellis is the first player to ever return from a torn labrum to the
major leagues. That's more damaging to come back from than ANYTHING
Giambi went through, period.

As for your comments on steroids, well ... I think they reveal your
ignorance. Which is fine. I can agree to disagree and move on. But at
least my kids will know the ridiculousness associated with anything
"Yankee" in MLB today.

Best wishes.

Coming from you?

At least Giambi has the balls, shrunken or not, to admit that he
used the stuff. Baby Bonds and the rest of them refuse to admit the
obvious.

Last year he was terrible. Not only is that all you know, it is all
that you need to know.

> And here's something
> to ask - how do steroids help you know the strikezone?

Because steroids allow you to swing faster and this means you have
longer to read the ball before you decide to swing or take it.

This is elementary stuff and if you don't know this, then you are
not qualified to have any kind of discussions on steroids.

cordially, as always,

Although Joe McDonald is a pompous blowhard sports talk show host here
in LA, I think he's dead on when he says the stuff the athletes use
today to help get away with steriods is so far advanced from a couple
years ago that there are a lot of players still using and I too believe
Giambi is one (Yeah, I have no proof, I know, except for all of a
sudden he starts hitting teh ball well out of teh blue when he couldn't
hit a watermelon earlier).

Why do you continue to write "teh"? It's not an argument, but I
personally find it grating.

I type really really fast and of course don't use a spell check. I for
some reason type "the" backwards a lot, sorry about that. I figure
people know what I'm typing when I do that since I don't go back and
fix it generally. Obviously I'm not doing it on purpose.
