1. Yesterday, the Montreal Expos were sold to a consortium led by the
team's president, Claude Brochu. The deal must now be approved, and that
may cause a problem because the city of Montreal and the Government of
Quebec are minor partners in the deal i.e. they have loaned +/- 25M to
the buyers.

2. There will be major improvements to the Olympic Stadium for next
year, and some more for 1992. Home plate will be 45 feet closer to the
stands, and real bleachers will be built behind the fences. Later, a HUGE
curtain, hanging from the roof, will be installed to hide the bleak
things behind CF, and a new SkyDome-style scoreboard will be added. When
all this is done, the Big O will have been changed from a 55,900 seat
golf driving range to a 44,000 seat REAL baseball stadium. About time!

3. Well, Dangerous Dave Dombrowski is at it again! His new plan is
(get this) to sign Kirk Gibson to a 3 year, 6M deal. Rumor is that the
Expos and Royals are the only two teams in the race for Gibson, and that
Montreal would be ahead because they would give hime a regular spot in
the lineup. Given the fact that the great wizardly witch-doctors that
the Expos have on their payroll have already brought OilCan Boyd back
from the dead, maybe they could work miracles for Gibson's miserable
health too???
But if Gibson signs (and stays healthy), he will be in left field next
year, which means that...

4. TIM RAINES IS ON IS WAY OUT! Raines has already stated that he would
not veto any trade, even though he is allowed to by the 10-5 year rule.
Rumors send him to the Cubbies (his best friend Andre Dawson is there,
and the Cubs might want to gamble that this will be enough to make
Raines produce) or to the Mets (if they can't sign Coleman). Killer Dave
would trade The Rock for a pitcher, preferably a starter, as team ace
Dennis Martinez will likely become a collusion-free-agent and leave town
as soon as he can.

That wraps it up for now... More info later...
