Christy Mathewson was one of baseball's first all-time legends. During
his pitching career he won 373 games, struck out more than 2,500
batters, and finished his career with an ERA of 2.13. His performance
during the 1905 World Series was selected by ESPN as the greatest
playoff performance ever.

In 1936, Mathewson was elected into the baseball Hall of Fame as one
of the original "First Five" members, along with Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb,
Honus Wagner, and Walter Johnson.
