Post subject: Chicago area AL 5x5 Keeper League
Archived from groups: rec>sport>baseball>fantasy (more info?)

We are looking for one owner in a 5x5 AL only keeper league. There will
be a dispersion draft for the 3 new teams prior to the auction. Live
auction will be held the Saturday AFTER opening day. $100 entry fee.
No transaction fees. League constitution is below.

Regards, Shawn

A team consists of the following: 5outfielders, 2 catchers, 1 second
baseman, one shortstop, one middle infielder (either 2B or SS), one
first baseman, one third baseman,
one corner man (either 1B or 3B), nine pitchers, and one designated
hitter. There is no 10th pitcher option.

Teams are ranked on five categories for Batting (Home Runs, Batting
Average, Runs Batted In, Stolen Bases, and Runs) and five categories for
Pitching (Earned Run Average, Ratio (H+BB/IP), Wins, Saves, and Strikeouts)

The draft is conducted on the first weekend after opening day. Teams
must acquire 23 players with $260.

Players who commence the season on a major league team's disabled list
are eligible to be drafted. Players in the minors or on rehab
assignments (and thus not on the opening day roster) are not eligible to
be drafted. Players promoted during the first week of the baseball
season are considered to be on the opening day roster.

A player may be assigned to any position at which he appeared in 20 or
more games in the preceding season. Once the season is under way, a
player becomes eligible for assignment to any position at which he has
appeared at least once.

After the auction draft, owners successively draft 12 additional
players in 12 separate rounds of selection. Initially, players acquired
in this fashion comprise a team's reserve roster. The order of selection
is determined by the order of finish in the previous season. In our
league the order is: 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st.
The salary of a player acquired in the rotation draft is determined as
follows: 1st round, $15; rounds 2-4, $10; rounds 5-8, $5; rounds 9-12, $2.

Fees: League entry fee is $100. There are no other fees associated
with the league, aside from penalties associated with free agents and
long term contracts as described below.

Prize money: 1st- 55%; 2nd- 28%; 3rd- 17%.

A team must pitch a total of 1000 innings to receive points in ERA and
RATIO. A team that does not pitch 1000 innings maintains its place in
ERA and RATIO ranking but
receives zero points in both of these categories.

A team must have 4250 at bats in the season. A team that does not have
4250 at bats maintains its place in the batting average ranking but
receives zero points in that category.

In cases of ties in total points, final places in the standings are
determined by comparing placement of teams in individual categories.
Respective performances are calculated and a point given to each team
for bettering the other. Should one team total more points than the
other, that team is declared the winner. Should the point totals still
be equal, the tie is broken by adding each team's total at-bats at
season's end, plus triple the number of its innings pitched. The team
that scores a higher total by this measure wins the pennant.

The effective date of any transaction is before the day's game that
the commissioner is notified. Transactions must be reported before any
AL games have been started on that day or the transaction will begin the
following day. Transactions reported on Draft Day are effective
immediately after the Draft. Players entering the AL free agent pool
(via trade from the National League, getting called up to the majors,
etc.) must be officially on their AL team in order to be bid on by a
fantasy team.

If a team has a player on his active roster for more than two weeks
who is no longer an active National Leaguer for any reason, the
commissioner shall make a transaction to replace that player.

From the completion of the rotation draft until Midnight on July 31,
teams are free to make trades of any kind. No trades of any kind may be
made between August 1 and the end of the season. Immediately upon
completion of the season, teams can commence to make trades again before
the rosters are due on April 1st.

Free agents can be signed until September 1. Each team has a Free
Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB) of $100. The minimum bid is $1, the
maximum shall be the amount remaining in the team's FAAB. In case of
tie, the player goes to the team that is lowest in the most recently
compiled standings. For each free agent that it signs, a team must at
the same time waive a player who is currently on its active or reserve
roster. A newly acquired free agent has a contract status of "Year 2"
and must spend at least one week on his fantasy team's active roster
before he is eligible for reassignment to its reserve roster.

Only a player currently on a 25-man major league roster (not on the
DL) may be signed as a free agent.

A player traded to the NL or a player on a guaranteed long-term contract
may not be placed on waivers.

If it chooses, a team may expand its roster for the pennant drive by
promoting from its reserve roster an unlimited number of players, as the
post-September 1 active-roster size expands to a maximum of 40 players.
Such players may play any position. September expansions are effective
immediately on September 1.

A team may sign a player to only one long-term contract, at the end of
which he becomes a free agent. If signed to a long-term contract, the
player's new salary becomes his old salary plus $5 for each additional
year signed. For example, if a $7 player is signed to a three-year
contract his new salary becomes $17 ($7 + $5 + $5).

A player signed to a long-term contract may be released back into the
free agent pool (that is, not protected on a team's roster prior to
Draft Day), but a team that chooses to do so must pay into the prize
pool the player's salary times the number of years remaining on the
contract or $20, whichever is greater.
